Seoul, Republic of Korea, October 31, 2025 — The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) successfully concluded the 14th Session of its Assembly and 18th Session of its Council (Joint Session), bringing together representatives of its Member States to review the organization’s progress and set the strategic direction for the coming years.

Chaired by H.E. Ban Ki-moon, President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council, and Vice Presidents of the Assembly and Vice Chairs of the Council H.E. Anne Kari Hansen Ovind, Ambassador of Norway to the Republic of Korea and H.E. Kamal Rohitha Uduwawala, Secretary from the Ministry of Environment of Sri Lanka, the Joint Session marked a pivotal moment for GGGI as it enters a new phase of growth and consolidation under the leadership of Executive Director Sang-Hyup Kim. The meeting followed a two-week period of e-consultations from October 13–27, 2025.

The Joint Session reviewed GGGI’s overall performance and strategic direction, with a comprehensive agenda covering the organization’s programmatic, financial, and governance priorities. Delegates considered updates on membership and Host Country Agreements, mid-year operational and financial results, and the 2025 budget. The Session also discussed the Mid-Term Evaluation of Strategy 2030 and its key recommendations, the update of GGGI’s Environmental and Social Safeguards System, and the upcoming schedule of governance meetings for 2026.

A highlight of this year’s meeting was the approval of GGGI’s Updated Strategy 2030 (2026–2030), alongside the reactivation of the organization’s Advisory Committee and strategic refinement of the Donor Consultation Group into the New Frontier Group—two major initiatives to strengthen the organization and its partnerships framework.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Ban Ki-moon highlighted the tangible results of GGGI’s work, stating, “GGGI’s support is helping nations translate ambition into results, creating green jobs, improving livelihoods, and strengthening resilience to climate shocks.” He further emphasized the critical timing of this work, noting, “And this progress is especially timely and critical. As many world leaders pull back from sustainable development and development assistance, our progress stands as a beacon to the rest of the world.”

In his first progress report to the Assembly and Council, Executive Director Kim Sang-Hyup confirmed that despite a challenging global environment where “Climate change is accelerating, environmental pressures are intensifying, and instability is deepening,” demand for GGGI is rapidly growing, evidenced by the expansion to 53 member states. The organization has proven its commitment to being an “indispensable partner” by mobilizing over $715 million USD in green investment and helping adopt 21 new green growth policies in the first half of the year. Executive Director Kim stressed the importance of its continuous improvement, asserting, “GGGI is a platform you own together, you shape together, and lead together,” as GGGI accelerates its work toward ambitious finance and policy targets.

Members that were represented at the Assembly and Council Joint Session include: Algeria, Angola, Australia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Luxembourg, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Nicaragua, Norway, OECS, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Viet Nam, Zambia, including expert and non-state actor members of the Council H.E.
