Belem, Brazil, November 18, 2025 — The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and CIFOR-ICRAF today renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a major step forward in scaling collaboration to advance sustainable landscapes, forest restoration, and climate resilience.

Building on the foundations of the 2021 MOU, which delivered impactful agroforestry initiatives in Peru, the renewed agreement elevates cooperation to a strategic global level. Both organizations share a strong track record in delivering science-based policy guidance and transforming it into large-scale investment outcomes for member countries.

CIFOR-ICRAF brings world-class scientific research, modeling, and spatial analysis, while GGGI offers trusted policy advisory roles, institutional capacity building, and a commitment to delivering bankable project outcomes,” said Beria Leimona, CIFOR-ICRAF Theme Leader, Climate Change, Energy and Low-Carbon Development. “Together with GGGI, we are building the pipelines, partnerships, and investments required to restore landscapes and drive inclusive, climate-smart growth.”

The MOU outlines an ambitious agenda, including:

  • Enhancing integrated landscape and coastal governance systems to restore natural capital and ecosystems.
  • Developing projects on forest and agroforestry value chains, blue economy commodities, nature-based solutions, and innovative climate finance.

The partnership is already advancing a robust pipeline of national, regional, and global projects, aiming to mobilize $100 million in grant resources over the next five years and leverage these into $1 billion in investments and innovative financing.

Ferruccio Santetti, GGGI Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, noted, “Our joint ambition reflects a shared sense of urgency to design scalable governance and financing models that unlock the $7 trillion needed for nature-positive investments globally.

The signing ceremony underscores the commitment of both organizations to lead transformative change and deliver tangible benefits for communities and ecosystems worldwide.
