Honiara, Solomon Islands, 18 March 2026 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in partnership with the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI), successfully convened a national validation workshop for the Solomon Islands Inclusive Green Finance (IGF) Roadmap 2026–2030, marking a significant milestone in strengthening climate resilience and financial inclusion in the country.

The workshop brought together representatives from financial institutions, government agencies, and development partners to review and validate the IGF Roadmap, which aims to expand access to financial services that support climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and inclusive economic growth.
Opening the workshop, CBSI Governor Dr. Luke Forau underscored the urgency of aligning financial systems with climate realities.
“Solomon Islands faces some of the highest levels of climate vulnerability in the world. Inclusive green finance is no longer an option. It is a necessity if we are to strengthen resilience, protect livelihoods, and ensure that no one is left behind.”

The IGF Roadmap builds on the country’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy and outlines a set of practical actions to strengthen the financial sector’s capacity to respond to climate and environmental risks.
Key priorities include:
- Expanding access to green financial products such as renewable energy loans, climate-resilient housing finance, and sustainable agriculture lending
- Promoting climate-responsive insurance solutions to protect vulnerable communities
- Strengthening financial literacy and awareness of climate risks
- Enhancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) integration across financial institutions
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Mohammad Ali Shaikh, GGGI Country Representative for Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, emphasized the broader development impact of inclusive green finance.
“Inclusive green finance is not only about expanding access to financial services. It is about enabling rural communities, women, youth, and small businesses to build resilience, adapt to climate change, and secure sustainable livelihoods.”
The development of the IGF Roadmap is supported under the Greening the Pacific Financial Systems (GPFS) programme, implemented by GGGI in close collaboration with CBSI and funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

Through the GPFS programme, GGGI works with central banks and financial institutions across the Pacific to strengthen climate risk management, develop sustainable finance frameworks, and mobilize investment toward low-carbon and climate-resilient development.
The validation workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to ensure that the roadmap is practical, implementable, and aligned with national priorities. Feedback gathered during the session will be incorporated into the final roadmap ahead of its formal adoption.
GGGI reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Solomon Islands in advancing inclusive green finance and strengthening a resilient, sustainable financial system that underpins long-term economic development.
