Paris, France, February 10, 2025 – At the Paris AI Action Summit, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) called for the sustainable utilization of AI. GGGI joined the Coalition for Sustainable AI, initiated by the French government, and launched at the Paris AI Action Summit. GGGI will aim to use its convening power to harness opportunities for its 49 Member States and 29 Partner countries as they transition their economies to a low-carbon economic model.
By becoming a member GGGI also endorsed the shared vision of the Coalition affirming its commitment “to leverage the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) to progress towards the UN Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), focusing in this Coalition on those related to climate action and protection of our environment.”
GGGI’s Director-General, Sang-Hyup Kim, joined global leaders in the high-level session “Scaling a Competitive and Sustainable AI Ecosystem Worldwide.” Speaking alongside Minister Yoo Sang-im (Minister of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea), Lisa Su (CEO, AMD), Aiman Ezzat (CEO, Capgemini), Roxanne Varza (Director of Station F) and Nyalleng Moorosi (Senior Researcher, DAIR), Director-General Kim emphasized the critical role of global cooperation in ensuring AI innovations serve environmental sustainability.
“Collaboration and coordination are key to addressing the climate crisis and accelerate green growth. AI has both a transformative potential and an increasing environmental footprint that needs to be addressed,” said Director-General Kim. “At GGGI we hope to work together with others to accelerate green growth by leveraging AI’s potential to achieve environmental sustainability for our Members and Partners,” Mr. Kim added.
“GGGI will aim to help transfer the best available and most appropriate sustainable AI solutions for the green transition of its Members and partners. We will focus our support to them to green the new demand for Sustainable AI infrastructure, including, for instance, AI-based MRV, green data centers, by supporting the development of policies and national standards, and raising green and climate finance for green digital infrastructure projects,” Mr. Kim said.
With operations in over 50 countries delivering close to 250 projects, GGGI is uniquely positioned to convene innovative partnerships with governments, private sectors, academia and stakeholders. Since 2015, GGGI helped mobilize more than USD 10 billion in green and climate finance commitments from private and public sectors.
About the Coalition for Sustainable AI
The Coalition for Sustainable AI, initiated by the French government and launched at the Paris AI Action Summit, in collaboration with the UN Environmental Program (UNEP) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), is a global community of stakeholders willing to contribute to initiatives for aligning AI development with global sustainability goals and fostering responsible AI that supports the ecological transition. 글로벌녹색성장기구 (GGGI), 지속가능한 AI 연합 가입 – AI를 활용한 녹색성장 촉진
프랑스 파리, 2025년 2월 10일 – 글로벌녹색성장기구(GGGI)가 파리 AI 정상회담(Paris AI Action Summit)에서 인공지능(AI)의 지속가능한 활용을 촉구하며, 프랑스 정부 주도로 출범한 지속가능한 AI 연합(Coalition for Sustainable AI)에 가입했다. GGGI는 이번 가입을 통해 49개 회원국 및 29개 파트너 국가가 저탄소 경제 모델로 전환할 수 있도록 기회를 모색하고, 협력의 장을 제공할 계획이다.
GGGI는 이번 연합을 통해, AI 발전 및 활용이 유엔(UN) 2030 아젠다와 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 달성에 기여해야 한다는 공동 비전을 지지하며, 특히 기후 행동 및 환경 보호와 관련된 목표를 최우선적으로 추진할 것을 공식적으로 선언했다.
GGGI의 김상협 사무총장은 “글로벌 AI 경쟁력 및 지속가능한 AI 생태계 조성”을 주제로 한 고위급 세션에 연사로 참석했다. 본 세션에는 유상임 과학기술정보통신부 장관(대한민국), 리사 수(AMD CEO), 아이만 에자트(캡제미니 CEO), 록산 바자(Station F 디렉터), 니알렝 모로시(DAIR 수석연구원) 등 주요 글로벌 리더들이 함께했다.
김 사무총장은 “기후 위기에 대응하고 녹색 성장을 가속화하기 위해서는 협력과 조율이 필수적입니다. AI는 기후 행동을 위한 혁신적인 도구가 될 수 있지만, 동시에 증가하는 환경적 영향을 해결해야 합니다”라고 강조했다. 이어 “GGGI는 AI를 활용한 환경 지속가능성을 실현하고 회원국과 파트너 국가의 녹색 성장을 촉진하기 위해 긴밀히 협력해 나가겠습니다”라고 덧붙였다.
“GGGI는 회원국과 파트너 국가들이 지속가능한 AI 솔루션을 효과적으로 도입하고, AI 기반의 녹색 전환을 지원하는 것을 목표로 할 것입니다.” 라고 김 사무총장은 전했다. “또한 GGGI는 지속가능한 AI 인프라의 새로운 수요를 친환경적으로 전환하는 데 도움을 줄 것입니다. 이를 위해 AI 기반 모니터링·보고·검증(MRV) 시스템과 친환경 데이터 센터와 같은 지속가능한 AI 인프라 개발을 지원하고, 정책 및 국가 표준을 수립하며, 녹색·기후 금융 조달을 통해 친환경 디지털 인프라 프로젝트를 지원할 것입니다”라고 밝혔다.
현재 GGGI는 50여 개국에서 약 250개의 프로젝트를 수행하고 있으며, 정부, 민간 기업, 학계, 시민사회와 협력하여 혁신적인 파트너십을 구축하고 있다. 2015년 이후, GGGI는 공공 및 민간 부문으로부터 100억 달러 이상의 녹색·기후 금융 투자 유치를 지원했다.
지속가능한 AI 연합(Coalition for Sustainable AI) 소개
