GGGI meeting with Indian Delegation to UNEP Asia-Pacific Forum

 Suwon, Republic of Korea; October 08, 2021 – On the sidelines of the UNEP Asia-Pacific Forum in Suwon, Republic of Korea, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), represented by Director-General, Dr. Frank Rijsberman, held a meeting with the forum’s delegation from the Government of India, including Surinder Bhagat, Deputy Chief of Mission; Naresh Pal Gangwar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Government of India; and Swapnil Thorat, Second Secretary, Commerce & Investment.

The Government of India has taken decisive steps to promote green growth such as the “Renewable Energy targets of 450 GW by 2030”, “Green Hydrogen Mission”, “National Clean Air Programme” and “Climate Smart Agriculture”.  Under this context, the meeting discussion focused on opportunities for further collaboration in strengthening green growth into the development planning and implementation in India and how achievements of India and learnings can serve as the lighthouse to other GGGI Members.

GGGI currently has 4 ongoing projects in India aimed at supporting green growth in the country, including:

    • BioCNG programme with MoPNG and PLL.
    • 600 MW Floating Solar project in Madhya Pradesh.
    • Narmada landscape restoration project.
    • EV charging Infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
