GGGI holds a workshop in Sri Lanka to promote green growth

On May 28th, GGGI and the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment (MMDE) of the Government of Sri Lanka organized a Green Growth Country Programming Workshop attended by senior officials from relevant ministries. The workshop was opened by Mr. Aruna Dissanayake, Secretary MMDE, and Ambassador Hyoeun Jenny Kim, GGGI’s Deputy Director General and Head of Green Growth Planning and Implementation Division. The workshop served as a platform for kick-starting the Green Growth Country Program between Sri Lanka and GGGI.

Sri Lanka became the thirtieth Member of GGGI in January 2019. GGGI is committed to supporting the country in achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and implementing its national adaptation plan. Going forward, GGGI will support Sri Lanka in achieving its NDC on adaptation by further strengthening the adaptation planning process in the country and enhancing the access to climate finance for the implementation of its national adaptation plan. As a small island developing nation, Sri Lanka is highly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change that poses a serious threat to its natural resources, economic growth, and well-being of the people.
