GGGI Fiji Office celebrates World Environment Day and World Oceans Day

On June 8, the GGGI Fiji Office celebrated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day with its counterpart the Climate Change Division (CCD) in the Ministry of Economy (MOE). During the event, Katerina Syngellakis, GGGI Pacific Regional Representative, made a presentation on plastic pollution and the importance of recycling and how best we could practice it in-house. As part of GGGI’s Green Office Month June 2018 activities, the GGGI Fiji Office, in partnership with GGGI’s counterpart, decided to launch another in-house recycling initiative.

The GGGI Fiji team together with the Climate Change Division (CCD) in the Ministry of Economy (MOE) will embark on recycling plastics in addition to the ongoing paper recycling initiative. The initiative will be conducted throughout the year and the plastic waste collected will be sold to a recycle vendor on a fortnightly basis with MOE to decide on how best to utilize the returns for other green office ideas. We will be working with MOE on monitoring the progress of the initiative with bi-monthly updates.
