Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | 09 September 2026 – Green investment can no longer be treated as an option for the future. It must become part of how businesses invest, grow and create value today, GGGI Ethiopia Country Director Okechukwu Daniel Ogbonnaya emphasized at the Green Investment Forum and Exhibition held in Addis Ababa.
Organized by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (AACCSA), the forum brought together representatives from government, the private sector, financial institutions and development partners to discuss opportunities and barriers to advancing green investment in Ethiopia. The forum’s objectives included promoting domestic and foreign investment in green growth, showcasing bankable green projects and strengthening dialogue on enabling policies and de-risking green investment.

GGGI, represented by Mr. Daniel, participated in a high-level panel discussion alongside representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Bole Lemi Industrial Park and the National Bank of Ethiopia, focusing on what is needed to create the right foundations for green investment and make sustainability increasingly relevant to private-sector investment decisions.
“Greening our investment is no longer an additional consideration or an afterthought. It is no longer something that belongs only under corporate social responsibility,” Daniel said. He stressed the need for businesses and investors to recognize the growing economic opportunities associated with the green economy and to make sustainability a core consideration in investment decisions.
“The future is not tomorrow. It is today,” he added, pointing to the increasingly visible impacts of climate change and the urgency of translating climate ambition into action.

Daniel also highlighted Ethiopia’s longstanding engagement in climate and green development, including its role as a founding member of GGGI. He noted GGGI’s support to Ethiopia over the years on green growth and investment readiness, including contributions to the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy and Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS), as well as other initiatives focused on mobilizing green investment.
He highlighted GGGI’s support to the Development Bank of Ethiopia on accreditation and climate finance, alongside partnerships with development partners including Sida, KOICA, GIZ, Norway and Switzerland to advance green development initiatives in Ethiopia.

The forum provided an important platform for connecting policy, finance, business and innovation. Its focus on green finance, policy and regulation, green innovation, resource efficiency, waste management and ESG compliance reflects the growing need to address investment barriers while creating practical opportunities for businesses.
For Ethiopia, the message from the forum was clear: the transition to a greener economy requires not only ambition, but investment, and the time to act is now.
End.
