Dakar, Senegal, September 5, 2025 – The Global Green Growth Institute showcased its commitment to food security in Africa through an interactive booth and high-level panels at the Africa Food Systems Forum, which it also sponsored. The forum brought together leaders from the public and private sectors, researchers, development partners, and young leaders dedicated to transforming food systems across the continent. The 2025 edition was held under the high patronage of H.E. Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, at the Abdou Diouf Conference Center (CICAD) from August 31 to September 5.

The theme for this year’s forum was: “Africa’s Youth: Leading Collaboration, Innovation, and Implementation of Agri-Food Systems Transformation.”

On September 3, a dedicated panel focused on financing agriculture and agroecology provided Ms. Sidonie Kouam, GGGI Africa Investment Lead, the opportunity to present innovative ideas about digital solutions and smart financing mechanisms. These strategies are crucial for building inclusive and resilient agricultural systems.

The following day, September 4, a second panel emphasized the vital roles of women and youth in the transformation of agriculture. This session was opened by Mr. Antti Inkinen, GGGI Regional Representative for West Africa and included contributions from Mr. Mamadou Konate, Senegal Country Program Lead, as well as representatives from Desjardins International Development (DID), La Banque Agricole, UN Women, the Embassy of Ireland, and the Women in Agriculture Network of Sierra Leone.

During this event, Mr. Antti Inkinen remarked, “Investing in women and youth in agriculture is not just a matter of fairness; it embodies intelligent economic strategy. This empowers food security, generates jobs, and propels the green transition forward.”

In line with GGGI’s commitments, Mr. Mamadou Konate also participated in a thematic session on climate resilience, alongside representatives from Colombia in Senegal, Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) Zambia, Herou Alliance, African Century Group, Mastercard Foundation, African Development Bank, Bioversity International, and CIAT. He concluded the session by stating: “Empowering women, youth, and local communities is essential for driving sustainable transformation. These groups hold the key to a brighter future. Together with the State of Senegal, we are dedicated to ensuring their access to climate financing.”

Looking ahead, GGGI reaffirmed its commitment to actively contributing to sustainable and inclusive food security in Africa and beyond, highlighting tangible progress made during the Africa Climate Summit
