ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Director-General, Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, is leading a high-level delegation to the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) , from September 8 to 10. GGGI’s expanded presence at the Summit, a key platform for advancing Africa’s climate agenda, underscores its commitment to supporting a just and inclusive green transition across the continent.

As one of the Government of Ethiopia’s eight key delivery partners to the ACS2, GGGI is playing a central role at the Summit, supporting both mandated and official side events. Across multiple high‑level sessions, Director General Kim will spotlight how climate finance, transparent Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) & data systems, gender‑inclusive investment, and high‑integrity carbon markets can unlock bankable pipelines and accelerate implementation. He will also attend key bilateral and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance to deepen cooperation on green growth and climate finance. In addition, he will participate in a series of high-level sessions, including:

  • A High-level Session on Purposeful Investment; Advancing Gender‑Inclusive Climate Solutions: Director General Kim will speak at the Africa Union Session on the 5th Green Investment Roundtable, focusing on advancing gender-inclusive climate solutions, highlighting GGGI’s work on gender and social inclusion (GESI).

  • Opening Remarks on Financial Readiness and Capacity: The Director-General Kim will provide opening and welcoming remarks at multiple official side events, including “Leveraging Private & Public Finance for the Green Transition” and “Building Capacity of MoF/Economy/Planning for Green Planning, Budgeting & Public Investment.” These sessions will address the critical need for institutional readiness to unlock climate finance.
  • Accelerating Finance: Director General Kim will also serve as a panelist at the mandated event, “Accelerating Finance for Climate Solutions,” reinforcing GGGI’s role as a key technical partner in mobilizing large-scale investments.

GGGI’s participation is strategically aligned with the summit’s core themes of climate finance and African-led solutions. Through its diverse engagements, GGGI will highlight its practical, on-the-groundwork in building institutional capacity, developing robust MRV systems, and promoting gender-inclusive approaches to climate action. The delegation will also focus on fostering partnerships and showcasing Africa’s potential as a leader in the global green transition.

“The Africa Climate Summit is a pivotal moment to transform Africa’s climate ambition into tangible action,” said Director-General Sang-Hyup Kim. “GGGI is Committed to championing Africa-led solutions, strengthening institutional capacity, and mobilizing the financial resources required to scale implementation.
