Geneva, Switzerland June 11, 2025- The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration on climate action, nature conservation, and pollution mitigation.

This collaboration will foster cooperation across a wide range of climate and nature-related issues, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, the sustainable ocean economy, the plastic action partnership, clean air, food innovation, forests and deforestation, sustainable energy, and clean hydrogen. The MoU also highlights collaboration in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital solutions for climate action, as well as unlocking innovative financing as cross-cutting solutions for climate and nature, including the mobilization of private capital.

Under this MoU, GGGI and WEF will collaborate on the implementation and expansion of their existing initiatives, such as the promotion of financing mechanisms and partnerships aimed at addressing plastic pollution. They will further explore opportunities for joint development and implementation of new projects and initiatives, in areas of policy and technical advice, and capacity-building to governments, drawing on their combined networks and expertise. The collaboration will also focus on knowledge sharing through joint research, publications, and events. Piloting digital tools and AI technologies will be another key area of cooperation, supporting developing and emerging countries to adopt and scale green growth solutions.

“We are proud to deepen our collaboration with GGGI to support sustainable growth and environmental resilience in developing and emerging economies. Together, we can accelerate progress by aligning technical expertise with the convening power needed to unlock public-private action at scale,” said Mr. Børge Brende, President and CEO of the World Economic Forum.

“This collaboration brings together GGGI’s policy expertise in developing and emerging economies with the WEF’s platform for convening global leaders and facilitating public-private cooperation,” said Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, Director-General of GGGI. “By aligning the Forum’s global networks with GGGI’s project development experience, we aim to develop concrete initiatives on climate action, energy transition, biodiversity conservation, and resilient global supply chains that can attract investment and create measurable benefits for communities and the environment.”

“Addressing nature loss and climate change requires deep collaboration and local action. Through this partnership, we are excited to build synergies between GGGI’s country-led efforts and the Forum’s global initiatives—especially in tackling plastic pollution, where we see immediate potential to accelerate impact and scale solutions that work.” added Mr. Sebastian Buckup, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum.
