Seoul, Republic of Korea, September 5, 2025 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Global Alliance for Clean Air and Climate (GACA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance green growth cooperation focusing on clean air. The MoU was signed at the 2025 World Clean Air Forum titled ‘Global Collaboration for Sustainable Clean Air and Climate’ organized by GACA and the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Korea at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Center.

The MoU establishes a framework to facilitate collaboration between both organizations in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Under this partnership, they will cooperate to support developing and emerging economies in areas including the development and implementation of clean air and sustainable environmental policies, the facilitation of green public and private investment to scale clean air and climate solutions, and the development of appropriate air quality improvement and clean air technologies. In addition, they will explore opportunities for collaboration in Asia and promote public awareness of the co-benefits of clean air and climate action.

“I hope this agreement will enable both organizations to build on our common goals and vision to achieve even greater outcomes together,” GACA President, Yoon Shin Kim, added.

GGGI has been working on clean air projects globally, including the Air Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), which was successfully concluded in Cambodia. GGGI has also been involved in other direct and indirect clean air projects focused on e-mobility and renewable energy.

Moving forward, GGGI and GACA will continue to strengthen their collaborative efforts in clean air initiatives to drive greener and more sustainable economies.

About the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) was founded as a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization in 2012 at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. About the Global Alliance for Clean Air and Climate (GACA)

The ‘Global Alliance for Clean Air and Climate (GACA)’ is Korea’s first non-profit corporation registered by the Ministry of Environment which specializes in outdoor and indoor air environment. GACA was established at the end of 2016 to raise awareness about the importance of air quality and the seriousness of air pollution, with the motto “Air is life”. Since 2010, GACA has held various meetings by designating Air Environment Education for the public, and ‘Day of Clean Air’ every year to inform the seriousness of indoor and outdoor air pollution problems and climate change. The World Clean Air Forum has also been established for experts with the aims to promote sustainable development of the air environment.

From 2020, GACA takes great pride in playing a central role in the UN’s designation of September 7 as the annual ‘International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies’. This initiative aims to recognize the importance of the air environment to vulnerable groups suffering from the climate crisis and global air pollution problems, prevent air pollution, and contribute to improving the health and quality of life of people around the world.

GGGI·GACA, 청정대기 협력 위한 MOU 체결

– 2025 세계맑은공기포럼서 체결…지속가능발전목표·파리협정 이행 협력 강화 –

대한민국 서울, 2025년 9월 5일 – 글로벌녹색성장기구(GGGI)와 세계푸른하늘맑은공기연맹(GACA)이 청정대기 분야 국제협력 강화를 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.

협약식은 환경부와 GACA가 공동 주최하고 한국과학기술연구원(KIST)에서 열린 2025 세계맑은공기포럼 (지속가능한 청정대기와 기후를 위한 국제협력)의 주요 프로그램으로 진행됐다. 이번 포럼에는 각국 정부 관계자, 국제기구, 학계 및 민간 전문가들이 참여해 청정대기 및 기후 대응을 위한 글로벌 협력 방안을 논의했다.

이번 협약을 통해 양 기관은 ▲신흥국·개도국의 청정대기 및 지속가능 환경정책 수립·이행 지원 ▲청정대기 및 기후 대응 솔루션 확대를 위한 공공·민간 녹색투자 촉진 ▲대기질 개선 관련 기술 개발 협력 등을 중점적으로 추진한다. 또한 아시아 지역을 중심으로 한 협력 기회를 모색하고, 청정대기와 기후행동의 필요성에 대한 대중 인식 제고에도 힘쓸 계획이다.

말레 포파나 GGGI 아시아지역국장은 “이번 GACA와의 협력은 매우 뜻깊은 계기라 생각한다. 청정대기는 GGGI가 중점적으로 추진하는 주요 사업 가운데 하나이며, 특히 아시아 지역은 대기오염의 영향을 가장 크게 받는 만큼 지역 주민들에게 더 깨끗한 공기를 제공하기 위한 다양한 현지 프로젝트를 추진하고 있다. 이번 협력을 통해 청정대기 분야에서 더 많은 기회를 모색하고 함께 성과를 만들어가길 기대한다”이라고 밝혔다. 김윤신 GACA 회장은 “이번 협약을 통해 양기관의 목표와 비전을 바탕으로 함께 더 큰 성과를 만들어 갈 수 있기를 기대한다”라고 설명했다.

GGGI는 캄보디아에서 성과를 거둔 ‘대기질 개선 프로그램(AQIP)’ 등 국제 청정대기 프로젝트를 성공적으로 수행한 바 있다. 이와 함께 전기 이동수단(e-mobility) 및 재생에너지 확대 등 기후·대기질 개선 관련 사업도 적극 추진하고 있다.

앞으로 GGGI와 GACA는 청정대기 분야에서의 협력을 한층 강화해 녹색성장과 지속가능한 경제 전환을 이끌어 나갈 예정이다.

세계푸른하늘맑은공기연맹(GACA)은 2016년 “공기는 생명이다”라는 모토로 설립된 환경부 등록 비영리 사단법인이다. 실내외 공기오염 문제와 기후변화의 심각성을 알리기 위해 공기환경 교육과 매년 ‘공기의 날’ 행사, 전문가 중심의 ‘세계맑은공기포럼’을 운영하고 있다. 특히 2020년 유엔이 매년 9월 7일을 ‘푸른하늘을 위한 세계맑은공기의 날’로 지정하는 데 핵심적 역할을 하며 국제적 위상을 높였다.
