GGGI and Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia sign MOU for Green Growth Cooperation

Seoul, Republic of Korea, October 16, 2024 – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) of Mongolia and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Green Growth Cooperation. Advisor to the Minister Mr. Batkhishig Purevdoo of MECC and Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Director-General of GGGI signed the MOU.

Within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding, GGGI and MECC will cooperate in the following areas:

·       Support the implementation of Mongolia’s Vision 2050 long-term policy and the Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement by strengthening green development planning, financing and institutional frameworks at national and local levels.

·       Mobilizing green public and private finance flows to convert green growth strategies and investment plans into implementable action and bankable projects;

·       Actively engaging in south-south cooperation and evidence-based knowledge sharing on green growth and sustainable development; and

·       Strengthening policy leadership in promoting the theory and practice of green development through public private partnerships.

During the MoU signing ceremony Mr. Batkhishig said, “The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is pleased to continue and deepen our cooperation with GGGI, working particularly on strengthening climate policy, sustainable financing and innovative projects in line with its NDC and Vision 2050, long term development policy.”

Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Director General of Global Green Growth Institute emphasized that “GGGI has been operating for more than 10 years in Mongolia, a country disproportionately affected by climate change, mobilizing over USD 100 million of investments to implement Mongolia’s climate commitments.”

To implement the MoU successfully, both parties will hold periodic consultations to review the planning, implementation, and outcomes of their cooperation activities as well as identify opportunities and follow-up activities for enhancing their collaboration.
