MEXICO CITY, MEXICO, JANUARY 9, 2025 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in collaboration with the CFA Institute launched the Climate Risk Valuation and Investing Certificate training  program aimed at equipping the global public financial sector with knowledge and capacities in sustainable finance.

During the launch ceremony, Ferruccio Santetti, Regional Director of GGGI for Latin America and the Caribbean, stated: “This course makes a difference because current sustainable finance training programs are aimed at both the public and private sectors. This results in a lack of depth and relevance for the specific mandates of ministries of finance, central banks, and banking and capital markets regulators. Therefore, this course will develop specialized training materials tailored to the needs of public sector financial actors. This will enable the provision of specialized training to regulators at no cost or with highly subsidized fees”

The Climate Risk Valuation and Investing Certificate training program will also gather information from target beneficiaries regarding capacity gaps, training needs, and preferences not currently addressed by available training programs, with the aim of continuously developing a better course and materials for future cohorts.

Richard Fernand, General Manager of Certificates at the CFA Institute, welcomed the course participants, saying: This program is specifically designed for professionals who want to develop practical skills and applicable, real-world knowledge in climate-focused investment principles. With the aim of equipping participants with knowledge from the investment perspective that can be applied to their roles, whether in policy-making, decision-making, or as investors. This applies to any role they may hold from a sustainability perspective”.

The CFA Institute is widely recognized as a global association specializing in investment for the private financial sector. Through its partnership with GGGI, this expertise will be extended to the public sector.

The Climate Risk Valuation and Investing Certificate course includes five virtual modules, two live case study sessions, and focus group sessions, spanning six months. It will be attended by approximately 60 selected candidates from over 20 countries globally, all of whom are government counterparts engaged in sustainable finance projects implemented by GGGI.

In the coming months, we will be developing the course, which will feature the CFA Institute’s virtual platform and sessions with experts on sustainable finance from the GGGI technical team.
