Amman, Jordan – October 24, 2024 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Cewas, in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), have launched the GGGI Cewas Green Accelerator to support sustainable business innovation in Jordan. This program aims to support local entrepreneurs and businesses in adopting and building upon sustainable practices across the governorates of Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa, promoting green growth and innovation.
The GGGI-Cewas Green Accelerator empowers businesses to scale sustainable solutions that address Jordan’s environmental challenges, while creating economic opportunities. With funding from KOICA, the program provides entrepreneurs with the mentorship, tools, and resources needed to implement green business models that focus on sectors like energy efficiency, waste management, and water conservation.
The program is divided into two tracks, each catering to businesses at different stages of development:
- Track A: Green Enterprise Accelerator – This track supports green businesses, start-ups, and MSMEs offering products or services that enhance sustainability or mitigate climate impacts. It provides a comprehensive range of services from early guidance to advanced scaling, helping businesses refine models, expand operations, and secure investment.
- Track B: MSME Transition Accelerator – Designed for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) committed to adopting sustainable practices and reducing their environmental impact, this track offers tailored mentorship and networking opportunities to help businesses transition to greener operations and scale sustainably.
The GGGI-Cewas Green Accelerator seeks to address some of Jordan’s most pressing environmental issues, including water scarcity, resource depletion, and energy inefficiency. By supporting green business models, the accelerator contributes to Jordan’s national green growth agenda and aligns with the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
“The launch of the GGGI-Cewas Green Accelerator is a major milestone in our commitment to supporting green growth in Jordan,” said Christophe Assicot, Jordan Country Representative, GGGI. “This partnership allows us to drive innovation and entrepreneurship, ensuring that local businesses are equipped to tackle environmental challenges and contribute to Jordan’s growth.”
“We are proud to partner with GGGI and KOICA in launching the GGGI-Cewas Green Accelerator,” said Aline Bussman, Co-director, Cewas. “Through this initiative, we aim to foster green entrepreneurship that not only addresses Jordan’s environmental challenges but also strengthens its economy.”
Cewas, with its expertise in fostering sustainable business solutions, will lead the capacity-building aspects of the program, offering training and guidance to participants. By focusing on practical, market-based solutions, lasting environmental and economic impact is aimed to be created by the accelerator.
The first cohort of the GGGI Cewas Green Accelerator will begin in January 2025, with businesses from Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa. The program offers mentorship, workshops, and networking opportunities, ensuring that participants are equipped to scale their green businesses and contribute to Jordan’s green economy.
