GGGI and Burkina Faso lay the groundwork for five-year cooperation

June 12, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – A workshop was held in Ouagadougou to discuss the development of a Country Planning Framework (CPF), which is focused on Burkina Faso’s priority objectives for green growth. Chaired by the Secretary-General of the Ministry in charge of the environment, the workshop provided an opportunity to launch partnerships by bringing together specialists from several ministerial departments. Experts in the environment, water, and sanitation, agriculture, urbanism, transport, and energy also attended the workshop.

The CPF lays out the green growth objectives that GGGI’s interventions aim to support in Burkina Faso. The workshop focused on the definition and prioritization of the strategic orientations of the five-year Country Planning Framework for the period 2019-2023.

The Secretary-General of the ministry in charge of the green economy said that “The participants of this strategic reflection have to define the bases on which GGGI and Burkina Faso will orient their strategic thematic interventions for a transition toward a green, inclusive and sustainable growth.”

GGGI plans to support Burkina Faso in the country’s ambitious new development strategy – the Program for National Economic and Social Development (PNDES) – that aims to reverse environmental degradation trends and ensure sustainable management of natural resources.

The results of this CPF workshop will, therefore, serve as a starting point for Burkina Faso as part of its process of joining the program, which will lead to the signing of a treaty.
