We work with Member States to strengthen food systems that can withstand climate stress, improve rural livelihoods, and support long-term agricultural productivity. Our approach connects policy, projects, and finance so countries can move from planning to implementation.

Our delivery model

Policy

We support governments in the design and development of national, sub-national, and sectoral strategies that strengthen climate-resilient agriculture and rural development. This includes technical support for frameworks such as:

• National green growth policies.
• Climate resilience and adaptation planning.
• Local development frameworks that integrate environmental sustainability.
• Sector-specific agriculture and land-use strategies.
• Planning instruments that connect food security with natural resource management.

These frameworks establish national priorities and create the policy foundation needed to guide resilient agricultural investment and implementation.

Project development

We help countries translate these priorities into concrete, investment-ready projects. Climate resilient agriculture is one of our programmatic solutions, with work that includes:

• Solar irrigation.
• Renewable energy applications in agri-value chains.
• Resilient cropping practices.
• Land and water conservation.
• Resource conservation.

Through this work, we help countries move from strategy to practical interventions that strengthen food systems and rural resilience.

Finance and scale-up

We help structure the financing needed to move climate-resilient agriculture from pilot activities to larger programs. This includes support for:

• Green investment advisory.
• Bankable project preparation.
• Mobilization of public and private capital.
• Scaling climate-smart agriculture where there is clear traction.
• Connecting agricultural resilience to broader green finance opportunities.

What we do

Our food security work is centered on a few practical areas.

• Climate-resilient production systems: We support cropping practices and land and water conservation measures that reduce climate risk in agricultural production.
• Solar irrigation and productive energy use: we support renewable energy applications in agri-value chains and solar water pumping as part of the organization’s climate resilient agriculture work.
• Rural livelihoods: we link resilience with jobs, income, and local economic benefits, especially in rural areas where climate impacts are felt most directly.
• Scaling proven approaches: We work to move promising climate-smart agriculture models into larger investment-ready programs.

Results

Our food security work has helped turn climate resilience into practical results at scale.

• 200,000 people supported to cope with the effects of climate change through our REDD Investment Program Phase II in Ethiopia.
• 10,000 green jobs created through the same program, alongside rural livelihood support and climate-resilient development.
• 3 million people enabled to gain access to clean fuels and/or electricity through integrated forest and rural resilience work in Ethiopia.
• USD 295 million invested in renewable energy-powered water infrastructure in Jordan, strengthening national water security and the conditions needed for resilient food systems.
• A climate-smart agriculture pilot in Senegal was scaled nationally, showing how resilient agriculture can move from pilot to broader implementation.
