Fiji Climate Change Portal & NDA Portal Launch

SUVA, FIJI – 18 March 2022 – Attorney-General of Fiji Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum launched the redesigned Fiji Climate Change Portal and the new National Designated Authority Portal at Suvavou House. The Attorney-General highlighted the new portal’s effectiveness in bringing the data of Fiji’s climate action effort into the digital age by mapping new adaptation and mitigation programs more effectively, which is a win for transparency, for technology and for the security of every Fijian.

With financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Readiness Project for “Enhancing Direct Access to Climate Finance in Fiji” was able to establish a mechanism to govern and coordinate climate action and finance and strengthen the CCICD’s overall capacity to carry out its important role. The CCICD with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) as the delivery partner have worked extensively to develop the updated portal.

GGGI’s Country Representative to Fiji, Mr. Daniel Muñoz-Smith, highlighted Readiness Project’s aims to strengthen the capacity of the CCICD and the Ministry as well as the institutional procedures for climate action. He also mentioned that the portal launch demonstrates to the GCF Secretariat, the commitment by the Government of Fiji to realise its key deliverables and the effective use of provided GCF funding.

The new Fiji Climate Change Portal will not only act as a central information hub for climate change policies, programs, and updates, it will also offer more clarity on Fiji’s response to the climate crisis. The Government ministries, businesses, international organisations, civic associations, researchers, and students will all have more information for their part of the role to act on climate change impacts and build resilience.

The New Portal can be accessed here for in-depth information about climate change in Fiji.
