Eleventh Meeting of the Management and Program Sub-Committee Held Virtually

Chaired by Australia (represented by Mr. Peter Elder, Director of Climate and Environment Funds for the Global Development Branch, Multilateral Development and Finance Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), the Eleventh Meeting of the Management and Program Sub-Committee (MPSC11) was held virtually on April 29, 2020. The meeting was attended by MPSC Members Australia, Republic of Korea, Rwanda, Paraguay (represented by the Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to the Republic of Korea H. E. Raul Silvero), and Ariyaratne Hewage (Non-State Actor Member of the Council), as well as observers from Ecuador, Ethiopia, Fiji, Hungary, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Maria Kiwanuka (Non-State Actor Member of the Council).

In keeping with the WHO recommendations to practice social distancing, MPSC11 was preceded by a week of e-consultations to allow in-depth discussions on the key agenda items including the 2019 Results, Overview of 2020 Programs, and Roadmap 2021-2025, where the Institute sought feedback and comments from MPSC Members.

The MPSC11 virtual meeting included presentations and discussions on the Progress Report from the Director-General to provide an overview of accomplishments and plans, a review of the 2019 financial results, the Work Program and Budget 2020-2021, new policies for travel and risk management, and a suggested new framework for assisting countries who are particularly vulnerable to climate change.

MPSC Members were positive to the Institute’s strategic thinking to address the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential implications on GGGI Members’ green growth policies, expressing hopes that GGGI will continue to do so. As of now, the next meeting will take place with continued social distancing measures in Seoul on July 9, 2020.
