Dust to Data: How a Young Engineer is Transforming Solar Efficiency in Jordan

A Story from the GGGI Green Business Incubator Program
In Amman, 24-year-old Gana Salieby and her team of young engineers are on a mission to make solar energy smarter and more efficient. Her innovative idea is a solar-powered, interactive dust-tracking map that monitors dust accumulation on solar panels. A small but critical problem that drastically reduces energy efficiency.
The concept is simple but powerful. Dust lowers the performance of solar PV panels, and manual inspection is often inconsistent and inefficient. Gana’s system uses a dust sensor to automatically detect when panels need cleaning, sending timely alerts to users and operators. The dashboard also enables solar operations companies to schedule maintenance more effectively based on actual data – reducing labor, saving water, and enhancing energy generation.
Although the idea first emerged over two years ago, the real development started in 2024 when her team began designing a working dashboard and sensor system. “We had the technical skills,” Gana explained, “but we were missing something. the business side.”
Before joining the Green Business Incubator, Gana and her team struggled with business fundamentals. As engineers, they had strong technical knowledge, but they needed help turning their invention into a viable business. They lacked marketing strategies, pricing models, and clear customer outreach plans.
That changed during the program. “The Business Model Canvas was a breakthrough for us,” Gana shared. “We learned how to structure our inputs and outputs, how to price our services, and how to build a proper marketing plan. The incubator gave us the tools to be the real business.”
Now, the team is preparing to officially launch their website in September. They plan to offer a three-month free trial to build trust with potential customers, then transition to a premium model supported by data-driven maintenance scheduling.
Looking ahead, Gana is determined to expand her reach and promote smarter solar solutions across Jordan and beyond. She recommends the program to any entrepreneur, no matter young or old, especially those in the early stages of turning ideas into businesses. “If you have a vision but don’t know how to manage the business side, this program will help you build the right foundation.”
