ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, August 20, 2025 – The upcoming Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), set to take place from September 8 to 10, 2025, will serve as a critical platform for Africa to champion climate action and strengthen access to climate finance. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) as a key delivery partner, stands at the forefront of these efforts to accelerate climate solutions and unlock financing for the continent’s green, resilient development.
Under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” the Summit will convene heads of state, ministers, private sector leaders, and global climate stakeholders. GGGI’s participation at the Summit is led by the Director General Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, Deputy Director General (OIC) and Africa Regional Director, underscoring the Institute’s strong engagement in supporting Africa’s climate and development priorities.
GGGI’s work across Africa is deeply aligned with the Summit’s three-day thematic focus, nature and technology-based solutions, adaptation and resilience, and climate finance and African led solutions. From West Africa to the Horn, GGGI implements projects that translate these themes into real-world impact. Across fragile and climate-vulnerable regions, GGGI supports governments in deploying nature-based solutions such as reforestation, restoration, and sustainable land management, alongside technology-driven innovations like solar-powered irrigation, climate-smart agriculture and early warning systems. In urban areas, GGGI promotes green infrastructure and circular economy models, supporting cities to become more livable and climate resilient. GGGI also builds institutional capacity to integrate climate priorities into national strategies and policies.
GGGI’s leadership in carbon markets, MRV systems, and climate finance mobilization has positioned it as a key technical partner in advancing Africa’s climate action. Its technical expertise and policy support have helped countries unlock millions in climate finance, develop robust data systems, and create enabling environments for private sector investment.
As one of eight delivery partners appointed by the Federal Government of Ethiopia, GGGI will play a key role in coordinating and delivering a high-level summit. These include sessions on climate finance, carbon market, MRV systems, climate mobility, institutional readiness, energy transition, and others. These sessions have been designed to amplify African voices and showcase home-grown innovations that can be scaled globally.
In addition, GGGI will also host a dedicated pavilion showcasing its work on forestry, circular economy, climate finance, and inclusive climate action, providing a platform to highlight ongoing programs and partnership opportunities.
Speaking on the importance of the summit, Katerina Syngellakis, GGGI Africa’s Regional Director, stated, “The Africa Climate Summit 2 is a pivotal moment for Africa to not only showcase its leadership but to also solidify its position as a powerhouse of global climate solutions. GGGI is honored to be a trusted partner in this endeavor. Our role is to ensure that the critical conversations on nature-based solutions and sustainable finance move from dialogue to delivery, unlocking the resources needed for Africa’s green and resilient development.”
ACS2 is strategically positioned to influence the global climate agenda ahead of COP30. Through its participation, GGGI aims to ensure that the continent’s priorities are at the forefront of these discussions, championing home-grown solutions and advocating for a just and equitable climate finance system.
