Development Not at Cost of nature

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said  his government is taking steps to ensure that development does not come at the cost of environment. He was speaking after releasing a report on the State’s Green Growth Strategy prepared by Bangalore Climate Change Initiative-Karnataka (BCCI-K) on Saturday. Expressing concern over climate change, Siddaramaiah said the government has taken several initiatives to reduce its ill-effects.
The government will examine the report seriously and consider the policy recommendations for implementation. The report is the first of its kind assessment to comprehensively evaluate the green growth potential in the state, Siddaramaiah said.
The strategy aims at meeting the short-term economic priorities of job creation, industrialisation and poverty alleviation, as well as the long term objectives of economic growth and environmental sustainability. The report was the final deliverable of a research project undertaken by research institutes.
For the preparation of the report, BCCI-K was supported by the Global Green Growth Institute of South Korea. The consortium of institutions, led by the BCCI-K include the IISc, ISEC, London School of Economics and others.
