GGGI in Central America

Starting in 2023, GGGI began operations in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, and expanded to Costa Rica in 2024. GGGI centers its work on issues related to climate-smart agriculture, forest restoration, sustainable finance, waste management, and sustainable energy, to support the region’s efforts in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Our collective journey

GGGI is driving tangible transformation within El Salvador’s agricultural sector, empowering vulnerable farmers especially women and youth—to build climate resilience. In 2024 alone, GGGI strengthened the capacity of 300 farmers through targeted training in sustainable practices and entrepreneurship, fostering climate-smart leaders.

GGGI bolstered national early warning systems by intervening in 10 agrometeorological stations nationwide. It also activated the SIAMMAG mobile app, a tool that provides real-time market and climate information to support farmers’ decision-making, and disseminated over 50 agroclimatic bulletins, ensuring timely information reached those who needed it the most. By strengthening community networks for knowledge sharing and enhancing agrometeorological infrastructure, GGGI, in partnership with the Government of El Salvador, is actively minimizing the impact of extreme weather events, driving a prosperous and equitable agricultural future.

GGGI is also supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) in El Salvador to develop key national forest restoration strategies, protocols, manuals, and action plans.
