Hanoi, 2 October 2025 — At “Innovate Viet Nam 2025” — the country’s flagship event on science, technology, and innovation — the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Viet Nam joined the National Innovation Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Finance, together with the World Bank, Meta, and Qualcomm, to co-organize the forum “Promoting Innovation and Development of Strategic Technology Industries.”

Chaired by H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, the forum convened more than 500 delegates from government agencies, international organizations, global technology firms, and the innovation ecosystem. This also marked the launch of key initiatives under the recent Resolution 57-NQ/TW by the Politburo, translating national directives on science and innovation into concrete collaboration and investment opportunities.

In his guiding remarks, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung urged that Viet Nam must gather speed to catch up, keep pace, and leapfrog in science–technology, innovation, and digital transformation. He underscored strategic technologies as the “golden key” for the next development phase, to be advanced through deep international cooperation.

Delivering a keynote on “Harnessing Climate-Tech Innovation for the Net-Zero Transition,” GGGI Country Representative to Viet Nam, Mr. Juhern Kim highlighted the importance of connecting AI-driven technological innovation with climate action, making science and climate a shared national agenda to accelerate the net-zero pathway both globally and in Viet Nam.

Echoing the H.E. General Secretary To Lam’s call to link innovation with sustainable development and emission reduction in his opening remarks of the Innovate Viet Nam 2025, Mr. Kim noted that data centers are driving up global energy demand and emissions, underscoring the urgency of accelerating renewable energy deployment.

He particularly highlighted a new wave of AI-driven technological innovation as key enablers for the net-zero transition. From satellite imagery for early methane detection in liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipelines, to precision agriculture and autonomous farming, drone-enabled transport and logistics, and advanced municipal solid waste (MSW) sorting and recovery, he pointed to AI-driven climate technologies already growing fast globally and emphasized the importance of adopting and tailoring these solutions for Viet Nam through technology transfer and startup acceleration. These are also key areas where GGGI is expanding cooperation with NIC and partners, building on GGGI’s global experience and local results in climate-startup acceleration via projects such as Accelerating Innovative Start-ups in Energy Efficiency (AIS4EE), while mobilizing capital by leveraging Viet Nam’s ambition to become a regional and global financial hub with recent establishment of the International Finance Centers in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

This forum also marked the first follow-up activity after the GGGI–NIC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on August 12, 2025 with the presence of GGGI Director-General Sang-hyup Kim, witnessed during the state visit of H.E. General Secretary Ta Lam to the Republic of Korea. The MoU establishes a strategic framework for GGGI and NIC to accelerate climate-tech innovation, support startup ecosystems, and mobilize investment for Viet Nam’s green transition.

Under the theme “Innovation for All — Driving Force for National Development,” Innovate Viet Nam 2025 is a national event co-chaired by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology in Ha Noi, held in response to National Innovation Day 2025. Taking place from October 1–3 at NIC Hoa Lac, the event brought together leaders from the Party, Government, ministries, localities, businesses, academia, and international organizations to connect the innovation ecosystem and advance science, technology, and digital transformation in support of Viet Nam’s sustainable growth, national competitiveness, and the net-zero transition.
