The Government of Benin, with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the funding of the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency (Luxdev), launched a two-day climate finance awareness and capacity-building workshop on 25–26 June 2026 under the Climate Finance Access Support Project.

The workshop brought together thirty participants from local authorities, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector, with the objective of strengthening their understanding of climate finance mechanisms and enhancing their ability to access and mobilize financial resources for sustainable development.

This initiative forms part of Benin’s broader efforts to operationalize national frameworks related to climate action and green finance, including the operationalization of the Benin Carbon Project Registration Authority (AEPC), the establishment of a Climate Finance Unit, the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Green Financing Framework and national green taxonomy.

Through a combination of practical training sessions, structured discussions, and targeted learning approaches, participants deepened their knowledge of climate finance mechanisms and instruments, access procedures, and funding opportunities. The workshop also enhanced stakeholders’ ability to identify bankable projects aligned with national climate and development priorities.

By reinforcing institutional and technical capacities, the workshop supports the development of a robust national green finance ecosystem capable of accelerating the country’s transition toward resilient and low-carbon growth.

Achieving our climate objectives requires more than ambition—it demands a shared mastery of climate finance mechanisms and deeper institutional synergy. By aligning key stakeholders around actionable financing frameworks, we can rapidly translate our national priorities into impactful, low-carbon investments,” said Dr. Bamikolé Jacques Kouazounde, Permanent Secretary of the Carbon Project Registration Authority (AEPC).

GGGI reaffirms its commitment to supporting Benin in mobilizing green finance and advancing sustainable development pathways in line with national and global climate goals.
