Burkina Faso Long Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) development process: First session of the Technical Monitoring Committee

Ouagadougou, November 4, 2021 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in collaboration with the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (SP/CNDD) organized the first session of the Low Emission Development strategy (LEDS) Technical Committee of Burkina Faso. The participants in this session consisted of members of the Technical Monitoring Committee and local consultants. This technical meeting aimed to: (i) (establish contact between the members of this committee and some national implementation actors, (ii) present the process and the LEDS project and (iii) present and review the inception reports of consultants in charge of the baseline scenario.

The members of this National Monitoring Committee are representatives of government institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector. The Committee is responsible for: (i) the adoption of the project annual work plan; (ii) the proper cooperation of all Parties in accordance with the project guidelines and the respect for their respective obligations under these provisions; (iii) the establishment of the directions for the project at the national level, the update of the project activities and the associated timeline and; (iv) the validation of all reports and the main deliverables produced by the project.

Inception reports for two sectors namely AFOLU and IPPU were validated and other three identified sectors (transportation, waste, and energy) baseline scenarios will be validated during the coming week. The committee chairman promised not only to facilitate communication between members but also data collection in the coming days.  They greatly appreciated the GGGI approach that will allow Burkina Faso to increase its national expertise.
