New Delhi, India, June 19, 2026 – Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in partnership with the CII Godrej Green Business Centre (CII-GBC), convened the Kick-off and Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on “Electrification Pathway for Industrial Decarbonization, Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCO)” at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Supported by the Sustainability, Equity and Diversity Fund (SED), the workshop brought together 24 representatives from industries, financial institutions, technology providers, multilateral organizations, and industry associations to launch Phase II of the Electrification Roadmap Study and strengthen collaboration on accelerating India’s industrial decarbonization through electrification.

The inaugural session featured addresses by Mr. Arijit Sengupta, Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India; Mr. Soumya Garnaik, India Country Representative, GGGI; Mr. Manoj Kumar Rustagi, Chief Sustainability and Innovation Officer, JSW Cement; Mr. Dinesh Ghai, Senior Counsellor, CII; and a special virtual address by Dr. Jaeseung Lee, Regional Director – Asia, GGGI.

In his keynote address, Mr. Sengupta emphasized the importance of industrial electrification in India’s energy transition, stating, “Industrial electrification is an economic and climate imperative. By aligning technology, policy, and finance, we can accelerate India’s transition to a cleaner and more competitive industrial sector”. He welcomed the launch of the Heat Pump Alliance as an important step towards accelerating industrial decarbonization and strengthening the country’s electrification ecosystem. He also appreciated the project’s objectives of developing a Roadmap for Electrification in Phase I.

The consultation served as a platform to validate the findings of Phase I of the study (Electrification of Industries & Role for Bee in Energy Transition, India — Global Green Growth Institute), gather stakeholder inputs, and shape the implementation of Phase II (Impact of Electrification in Industrial Decarbonization, Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCO) — Global Green Growth Institute).

During the inaugural session, the project factsheet and the website were officially launched, providing stakeholders with key insights from Phase I of the study and a platform to follow the progress of Phase II.

The workshop featured two high-level panel discussions exploring the technological and policy dimensions of industrial electrification.

The first panel, “Accelerating Industrial Decarbonization through Electrification and Advanced Clean Technologies,” examined the readiness of emerging electrification technologies and the enabling conditions required for their large-scale deployment. Discussions highlighted the importance of reliable and affordable electricity, continued technology innovation, demonstration projects, and stronger technical standards to accelerate adoption across industrial sectors, particularly among MSMEs.

The second panel, “Industrial Energy Transition: Aligning Electrification Strategies with CCTS and RCO Frameworks,” focused on strengthening the policy and financial ecosystem needed to support industrial electrification. Participants discussed how market-based mechanisms, including the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCO), alongside innovative financing and cross-sector collaboration, can improve investment confidence and accelerate the transition to low-carbon industries.

Speaking on the significance of the consultation, Mr. Soumya Garnaik, India Country Representative, GGGI, highlighted the importance of collaborative action in shaping India’s industrial electrification roadmap. “The insights shared through this consultation will play a vital role in shaping the next phase of the Electrification Roadmap Study. By working closely with government, industry, and development partners, we aim to develop practical solutions that accelerate industrial electrification and support India’s transition towards a competitive, resilient, and low-carbon economy.”
