    Project Summary

The National Climate Change and Sustainability Awareness (NCCSA) Campaign, led by Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) in collaboration with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Qatar, sparks a nationwide dialogue on climate change and sustainability. It focuses on engaging students, youth leaders, and civil society to inspire sustainable practices, promote climate resilience, and communicate Qatar’s climate policies to the community.

    Project Goal & Objectives

The project aims to raise awareness and promote a national climate change and sustainability dialogue involving students, youth leaders, and civil society organizations.

    Specifically, the project aims to:

Further raise awareness about climate change and sustainability, emphasizing their regional impact and the need for collective action.

Highlight MECC actions and work on Sustainability and Green Growth.

Showcase Qatar’s global green growth and sustainability efforts, fostering engagement with stakeholders, including youth.

Empower students to lead climate action and sustainability initiatives through education and active participation.

Collaborate with various institutions to integrate climate education into existing programs and activities.

    Context & Background

Qatar is actively pursuing a comprehensive approach to climate change, recognizing the critical need for national action and international collaboration. This commitment is reflected in Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which prioritizes sustainable development and environmental protection as key pillars for the nation’s future.

To translate this vision into reality, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) plans to spearhead the National Climate Change and Sustainability Awareness (NCCSA) Campaign. This initiative is designed to galvanize public engagement and foster a nationwide culture of sustainability. Recognizing the crucial role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academia, and civil society in driving climate action, the campaign aims to create a collaborative engagement and knowledge-sharing platform.

Furthermore, the campaign will prioritize youth empowerment, acknowledging the pivotal role of young people in shaping a sustainable future. By providing educational resources and opportunities for active participation, the campaign will seek to cultivate a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders.

The NCCSA Campaign represents a significant step towards fulfilling Qatar’s international commitments under the Paris Agreement and other global frameworks. This campaign will lay the groundwork for a sustainable and resilient Qatar by raising awareness, promoting collaboration, and empowering youth. The Campaign is an initiative that will be led by MECC in collaboration with GGGI.

    Project Outcomes

Citizens, residents, and institutions in Qatar are informed and educated about climate change issues, empowered to mitigate risks, act, and drive impactful change:

Enhanced Awareness: Over 10,000 individuals, including students, youth leaders, and civil society members, engaged through competitions, campaigns, and outreach activities to increase awareness about climate change and sustainability.

Youth Leadership Development: At least 1,500 students trained through educational workshops, climate action challenges, and leadership programs, fostering the next generation of climate advocates in Qatar.

Institutional Collaboration: Partnerships with 20+ institutions, including schools, universities, and NGOs, integrating climate education into their programs and mobilizing joint efforts for sustainability.

Increased Public Engagement: Nationwide campaigns showcasing Qatar’s climate actions and encouraging public participation.

“Qatar, with its abundant resources and young and wise leadership has a unique opportunity to become a role model for the region in combating climate change.”
