In Viet Nam, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) has been cooperating with various ministries and government agencies since 2015 to provide technical assistance, investment mobilization, policy advisory and capacity building to the Vietnamese Government, supporting the country’s ambitions towards green growth and net-zero transition.

As a trusted advisor and strategic development partner, GGGI Viet Nam country office works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Construction, alongside provincial governments and other stakeholders. GGGI aims to accelerate Viet Nam’s climate actions and strategic efforts to reach net-zero by 2050. This commitment has been solidified through the launch of Viet Nam – GGGI Country Planning Framework for the period of 2024- 2028.

Viet Nam’s achieved remarkable economic progress over the past decades. Alongside this, the Vietnamese Government increasingly embraces green growth as a cornerstone in its sustainable development strategy, committing to achieving net-zero by 2050.

Viet Nam became one of the GGGI’s founding members in 2012. Since then, the collaboration between GGGI and Viet Nam has strengthened the country’s climate actions in alignment with the National Green Growth Strategies across various sectors. These include energy, waste, industry, building, agriculture, and start-up acceleration toward green growth and achieving net-zero 2050. The long-standing partnership has yielded impactful policy advisories, including the development of the Investment Guidelines for Green Growth, the Urban Green Growth Indicator, and the Viet Nam Urban Green Growth Development Plan up to 2030.

As of 2024, GGGI has facilitated the mobilization of over USD 300 million investments towards green projects such as waste to-energy and market-first green bond issuances by financial and corporate entities in Viet Nam. In 2024, GGGI and the Government of Viet Nam launched the “GGGI – Viet Nam Country Planning Framework 2024-2028”, fortifying collaboration for green growth and climate action. The framework focuses on seven strategic areas: green investments, climate action, green industries (with a strong emphasis on climate tech startups and Artificial Intelligence), climate-resilient agriculture, waste management, green buildings, and carbon market.
