About GGGI in Senegal

GGGI has been working with the Government of Senegal
since 2014 to support the implementation of an inclusive and sustainable green economy as a part of Senegal’s national development strategy “Plan Senegal Emergent.” In 2019, GGGI in Senegal and the Ministry Environment Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition developed a Country Planning Framework (CPF) for the period 2019-2023, in line with national priorities and international commitments to address climate change.

A dedicated team of technical experts embedded within local and central government institutions implement GGGI’s Senegal Country Program. GGGI’s team provides timely and high-quality demand-driven technical and advisory assistance across seven programmatic solutions in line with Senegal’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Collective Journey

GGGI in Senegal has achieved significant milestones across different sectors. Multiple projects have been developed and implemented within the frameworks of Senegal’s comprehensive Country Planning Framework in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and
Sustainable Development.

Building on the successes and lessons from an initial phase (2019-2023), a revised Country Program Framework will be developed for the period 2024-2028. The new CPF will serve as a strategic tool for GGGI and the Republic of Senegal to further strengthen collaboration and advance the country’s green growth economic agenda. The framework will facilitate the realization of a climate-resilient and low-carbon economy, consistent with the long-term low emissions development strategies, (LT-LEDS) and in alignment with Senegal’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Further focus will be on coastal resilience, green buildings, sustainable and green energy, and green industries.

GGGI will continue to work on the implementation of ongoing projects and the development of bankable green investment projects that support the successful realization of Senegal’s green growth targets. Special attention will be paid to creating frameworks for public-private partnerships and raising awareness about the need for green finance mobilization by engaging private sector actors. A significant addition will be the integration of the Carbon Pricing programmatic solution, focusing on carbon policy design, carbon trading, carbon transactions, and knowledge sharing.
