About GGGI In Qatar

The State of Qatar is one of the founding Members of the Global Gree Growth Institute (GGGI). The GGGI Qatar Office, based in Doha, is a recognized diplomatic mission under a Host Country Agreement with the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Office’s activities are aligned to achieve the objectives of the Nationally Determined Contributions, National Climate Change Action Plan, and National Environment and Climate Change Strategy, emanating from the Qatar National Vision 2030.

GGGI Qatar is currently implementing a multi-year cooperation program on climate action and green economy with the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which is also the host and focal entity of GGGI in the State of Qatar.

GGGI also has a Memorandum of Understanding with the aid agency Qatar Fund for Development and is implementing Qatar-funded projects to support climate resilience and sustainable economic growth in several small island states and least-developed countries.

Our Collective Journey

GGGI has played a pivotal role in advancing the Qatar’s transition toward a green growth economy, achieving significant milestones across key projects.

Through the National Adaptation Planning (NAP) Project, GGGI Qatar is supporting the development of adaptive strategies to safeguard the environment and ensure long-term sustainability. In 2025, our efforts are focused on finalizing the NAP, which will guide Qatar’s climate adaptation actions and priorities for the future.

At the core of our work is the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system development. The MRV system is a critical tool for tracking Qatar’s progress toward its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). GGGI is actively assisting in designing and implementing this system to enhance greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and reporting, ensuring Qatar’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement are transparent, data-driven, and effective.

The NDC enhancement project will allow Qatar to showcase progress made towards the Paris Agreement goals over the past 5-year cycle (2020-2025) and present increased level of climate ambition for the next 5-year cycle (2025-2030). This project will allow Qatar to demonstrate its ability to implement the Paris Agreement vision within its borders.

In addition to these foundational projects, GGGI Qatar is working closely with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) to strengthen Qatar’s climate negotiation capacity. By providing specialized workshops, tailored training programs, and interactive simulation exercises, we are equipping Qatar’s delegates with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of international climate negotiations, particularly in preparation for Conferences of the Parties (COPs).

Beyond national efforts, GGGI Qatar collaborates with global partners, including the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), to implement Qatar-funded projects that support climate resilience and sustainable economic growth in small island developing states (SIDS) and least-developed countries (LDCs).
