Jordan Country Representative
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan became a member of GGGI in 2014. The GGGI Jordan Office is located in Amman, and the country program is aligned with the national development objectives, including the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV), Jordan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), and the National Green Growth Plan for Jordan. The office works closely with the Ministry of Environment, which serves as the host and focal entity for GGGI in the country. GGGI is currently implementing a multi-year cooperation program on climate action and green economy with the Government. A Host Country Agreement was signed in 2025, and the team is implementing projects with various partners to support access to climate finance, low-carbon transport, green job creation, and sustainable and carbon finance.
Over the past decade, GGGI has made significant contribution to green transition in Jordan. In 2017, we supported the development of the National Green Growth Plan which built upon existing government strategies to define sustainable pathways in achieving them. Green growth concepts were then operationalized into sectoral objectives and actions through the design of the 6 Green Growth National Action Plans for agriculture, water, transport, energy, waste and tourism.
After that, the GGGI Jordan program started scaling up substantially with a focus on technical support in the areas of e-mobility, access to climate finance and green jobs creation. Some of our major achievements include the support to the Cities and Villages Development Bank (CVDB) through their accreditation to the Green Climate Fund, as well as the mobilization of a multi-million grant for the procurement of electric buses at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. Since then, the program keeps expanding, including regionally with a new project helping private sector’s access to the Green Climate Fund. Moreover, GGGI is pioneering innovative green financing instruments with a technical assistance project to CVDB on green bonds issuance as well as with two initiatives that aim to strengthen the regulatory framework for international cooperation under the Article 6 of the Paris agreement and to originate greenhouse gas emission reductions trading opportunities with foreign countries.
GGGI’s impact in Jordan so far includes:
– USD 14M Green Investment Mobilized
– 2,100+ Job Seekers Equipped with Green Skills
– 1,000+ Entrepreneurs Supported through Green Entrepreneurship Programs
– 5,000+ Participants in Capacity Building Activities
