About GGGI in Ethiopia

GGGI has been working with the Government of Ethiopia since 2010 to develop and implement the country’s Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy. The strategy aims to deliver Ethiopia’s vision of becoming a net-zero, climate-resilient, and middle-income green economy by 2030.

GGGI’s Ethiopia Country Program is implemented by a dedicated team of technical experts embedded within local and central governmental institutions. GGGI’s team provides timely and high-quality demand-driven technical and advisory assistance in line with Ethiopia’s green growth goals.

Our Collective Journey

GGGI in Ethiopia has achieved significant milestones across different sectors. With GGGI’s support, Ethiopia was one of the first nations to submit 1.5°C compatible Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in line with the targets under the Paris Agreement, defining its pathway to net-zero emissions by 2050.

GGGI’s efforts in Ethiopia also laid the foundation for constructing a climate-resilient and carbon-neutral middle-income economy, aligning with the country’s Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) and updated NDCs.

Through green investment projects, tailored capacity development, and engagement with private sectors, civil societies, and academia, GGGI’s Ethiopia Program supports transformative and inclusive growth.

Going forward, GGGI in Ethiopia will focus on delivering transformational and impactful programs with measurable attributed and contributed outcomes over 2023-2027. The aims are to develop solid partnerships and facilitate resource mobilization to accelerate green growth adoption and strengthen linkages with key global development agendas and GGGI’s Strategy 2030.
