About GGGI in Burkina Faso

GGGI has been working with the Government of Burkina Faso since 2018 to operationalize the country’s “2050 Vision”
Strategy, an ambitious plan to achieve a low-carbon, climate-resilient development by 2050.

GGGI has a dedicated team of technical experts embedded
within the central and local government institutions to support the implementation of key activities that aim to accelerate the transition to a green economy in Burkina Faso. GGGI’s team provides timely and high-quality demand-driven technical and advisory assistance in line with Burkina Faso’s National Economic and Social Development Plan (PNDES) as well as relevant green growth and climate policies.

Our Collective Journey

GGGI in Burkina Faso has achieved significant milestones across different sectors. As a result of GGGI’s collaboration with the government of Burkina Faso, 11 green growth policies have been adopted and integrated into systemic economic and policy planning. Notable policies implemented include Green City Framework Guidelines, a National Greenhouse Gas Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification system, a Long-Term Low Carbon Development Strategy for 2050, and the mainstreaming of Green Growth in the national development plan 2021-2025.

GGGI’s efforts in Burkina Faso led to a solid basis for green investment mobilization, exemplified by the launch of the Green Climate Fund accreditation process for the Environmental Intervention Fund and Coris Bank International, which enables the two institutions to receive funds directly. Other notable achievements include improved access to green energy in rural areas, development of green building standards, mobilization of green investments, development of investment mechanisms to support eco-villages, and the adoption of a comprehensive approach that considers humanitarian, peace, and green growth.

For the period 2023-2027, GGGI in Burkina Faso will continue to catalyze green growth efforts to strengthen the country’s resilience to climate change, find sustainable pathways out of the current humanitarian and security crisis, enable green recovery, and support efforts to achieve sustainable development.
