Colombian Parliament approves the first of the four debates on the GGGI Establishment Agreement

April 10 – Bogota, Colombia – The Second Committee of International Affairs of the Senate of the Republic of Colombia approved today the first debate – out of four required to pass the bill – of the Bill 178 and 179 of 2017 that makes reference to the Legal Status and Privileges of the Global Green Growth Institute and the Establishment Agreement.

The Senators of the Second Commission, the Honorable Senator Jose David Name, Speaker of the Bill, the Deputy Minister of the Environment, and Juhern Kim, Acting GGGI Country Representative for Colombia, attended the session.

During the Debate, the Honorable Senator Jose Name gave a presentation on the importance for Colombia to join the Global Green Growth Institute as a Member, and thus approving the two projected Laws that endorse the GGGI Establishment Agreement and the Legal Status and Privileges Agreement. Subsequently, both cases were voted unanimously by the Senators who participated in the session, allowing the bill to be submitted to the second debate.

In 15 days, the second debate will take place in the plenary session of the Senate of the Republic of Colombia, and if approved, the third debate will take place in the Second Commission of the House of Representatives. The fourth debate is likely to take place between July 20 and December 16, 2018. Once these four debates are finalized and approved, the bills will become the Law of the Republic of Colombia.
