Dr. Pranab Baruah is a Principal Specialist in GGGI’s Office of Thought Leadership, and is currently based in Seoul, South Korea. At his current role, he oversees a number of strategic research and analysis projects on green growth topics, as well as supports NDC implementation and clean energy projects in GGGI partner countries. Earlier he concurrently served as the Senior Knowledge Manager of GGGI and the Senior Research Manager at the Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) Secretariat.
Prior to GGGI, Pranab was a Senior Researcher and Manager at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) Japan, overseeing projects on city energy analytics and strategy as well as policy dialogues on sustainable energy transition in Japan. He is an associate of University of Oxford, where he earlier worked as a lead energy modeller and project coordinator in large research consortia on national energy and infrastructure foresight analysis and industrial energy efficiency.
With a transdisciplinary background, Pranab’s experiences include technical and policy advisory to governments on clean energy and green growth, carbon management advisory to corporations, developing satellite remote sensing applications for environmental change management, as well as teaching and joint research with government and industry at the University of Tokyo and University of Oxford.
Pranab worked and studied in Japan, the UK, Thailand, and India, and speaks fluent Japanese along with Hindi, Bengali and Assamese. He holds a PhD in engineering, an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management, and a professional certification in green building design and construction (LEED AP).
