Peter Okubal is GGGI Country Representative for Uganda, where he is taking lead in developing the country planning framework and cultivation of relationships; overseeing program delivery; review, monitoring, and reporting. He is responsible for ensuring cross learning and fertilization of knowledge across GGGI programs as well as identification of resource mobilization opportunities and collaborating with appropriate units to design and implement resource mobilization efforts. He is also responsible for all aspects of management and administration as they pertain to the country program and its staff and consultants.
He is a development specialist and practitioner with 18 years of experience in Program and People Management with skills in Strategic leadership and management; strategic planning; programme monitoring and evaluation; developing and Managing strategic and operational partnerships with Civil Society, Private Sector and Governments as well as good networking, fundraising and grants management. He has a vast experience gender sensitive, inclusive and pro-poor development approaches.
Prior to joining GGGI, he worked as a Country Representative of WaterAid Uganda where he worked closely with the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Water and Environment; Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network, Parliament of Uganda to develop and build consensus on Uganda’s Post 2015 development agenda especially on Water, Hygiene and Sanitation. He was also a key actor in the development of the National Development Plan (NDPII) and ensuring that it localizes the relevant SDGs and addresses the local needs including integrated Water Resources Management, Sanitation and Hygiene working with the National Planning Authority. Prior to that he held other positions such as Executive and Director of Programmes for Panos Eastern Africa; Programmes Manager with Stromme Foundation in South Sudan, Programme Manager with Child Fund in Uganda; Sub Office Coordinator and Project Manager with Care International in Uganda; a Socio – Economist with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) in Uganda and a Programme Officer with ActionAid International in Uganda.
Peter Okubal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Rural Economy from Makerere University in Uganda, a Masters in Development Economics from Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University in the Netherlands.
