In 2019 the Third National Urban Forum discussed key issues highlighted in this background paper. These issues are considered to make Rwandan cities efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. The forum had elaborated on broad developmental issues of urbanization in Rwanda. Currently, more development partners are willing to allocate resources in support to the urbanisation process in Rwanda, in line with NST 1 and responding to the current trends. The Third Session of the NUF was an opportunity to understand, discuss and agree on practical ways to strengthen implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Rwanda. Reviewing and assessing the progress Rwanda has made regarding the implementation of the recommendations from the Second Session of the NUF of 2011 would further support discussions on strengthening NUA implementation.
The Rwanda Global Green Growth team embedded in the Ministry of Infrastructure supported the government and partners in preparing the Background paper, giving technical input, editing and proof reading.
