Howard Bamsey, GGGI Director-General, and Omar al Nahar, Jordanian Ambassador to Korea at GGGI’s headquarters in Seoul
SEOUL – April 8, 2014 – On behalf of the Kingdom of Jordan, H.E. Omar al Nahar, Jordanian ambassador to the Republic of Korea deposited the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) instrument of accession at the organization’s Seoul headquarters.
Upon official confirmation, this will make Jordan the 22ndmember of GGGI.
“We are pleased to have Jordan as a member of our growing organization,” said Howard Bamsey, GGGI’s Director-General, who was present at the ceremony. “Cooperation with Jordan is becoming increasingly important as GGGI’s presence in the region grows.”
Ambassador Nahar added, “Jordan, by virtue of its geographic location and diversity, offers excellent grounds to develop green growth. We do look forward to strengthening ties with GGGI, to benefit from its expertise and to working together to develop our relationship to tap into the huge potential Jordan and the region has in this field for the benefit of all.”
GGGI is expanding its operations in the Middle East and North Africa. Through its Abu Dhabi Office, GGGI is active in Jordan, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) and Morocco. In Jordan and the U.A.E., GGGI supports the governments in the design of comprehensive National Green Growth Strategies that include recommendations across multiple economic sectors.
Additionally on April 1, 2014, GGGI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), a U.N. agency that promotes cooperation and integration between countries in Western Asia and North Africa. The two organizations will work together to support countries in the Arab region in their adoption and implementation of green growth policies. This includes collaboration on research projects, capacity building programs, and policy dialogues with governments and private sector representatives in Arab countries.
