Mahua Acharya is GGGI’s new Assistant Director-General and Head of the Knowledge Solutions Division

SEOUL – July 15, 2015 – The Global Green Growth Institute has announced the appointment of Mahua Acharya as Assistant Director-General and Head of the Knowledge Solutions Division. Ms. Acharya will be based in the organization’s Seoul headquarters and assume her duties on September 1, 2015.

As Head of the Knowledge Solutions Division, Ms. Acharya’s primary responsibilities will be to develop: the organization’s Green Investment Advisory Services, which helps GGGI member countries develop and seek financing for green investment projects,  conceptualize knowledge products that build a strong theoretical and empirical base for green growth, build capacity for green growth implementation, and facilitate South-South cooperation.

“GGGI’s new strategic plan places a strong emphasis on developing innovative green investment projects and proposals for developing countries, which is a priority I share from my years of working in green finance” said Ms. Acharya. “I am therefore extremely excited to join the Global Green Growth Institute and share my experience.”

Ms. Acharya is currently Managing Director at C-Quest Capital LLC, a carbon finance business that uses carbon credits to bring investment capital to social welfare projects in developing countries. Ms. Acharya is based in Bangalore, India, and manages the company’s investments in India, relationships with the Government of India and investors, and the development of new bankable projects in Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Her team also oversees the management of operations for C-Quest’s projects in Nigeria, Zambia, and Malawi.

Prior to her work at C-Quest, Ms. Acharya held numerous positions in the field of green investments and finance in both international organizations, such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the World Bank, as well as in the private sector, such as at ArcelorMittal and Emergent Ventures India.

“Mahua’s extensive experience in finance in the private sector as well as international institutions will be a great asset to our organization,” said GGGI’s Director-General, Yvo de Boer.

“With her on board, I am confident we will be better able to support our member countries to implement inclusive green growth plans and create an enabling environment for public and private investment in green growth,” Mr. de Boer said.
