GGGI takes the lead in leveraging green growth to support the Philippine SDG targets and its Long Term Vision 2040

March 12, 2019, Naga City, Philippines – GGGI presented a green growth planning toolkit designed to help local governments mainstream green growth in their development plans, during the 30th National Convention of the League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines held in Naga City, Philippines.

In support of the SDG targets under Philippines’ Long-Term Vision 2040, the toolkit was developed as a joint initiative between GGGI and the National Economic Development Authority.  It was pilot-tested in the Provincial Governments of Bataan and Dinagat Islands, and the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development.

The green growth planning toolkit endeavors to complement the country’s planning guidelines and offers a robustness checklist as a guide in the alignment of local development plans with the national plans, and across sectoral and thematic plans. It helps identify green growth entry points in each of the key planning steps; advocates the use of evidence-based tools and methodologies to help prioritize green programs, projects and activities; and highlights the critical role of monitoring and evaluation component through the use of indicators.

Attended by more than 500 local planners nationwide, the event carried the theme “Green Growth: Funneling Initiatives Towards Sustainable Development”.
