The Country Selection Project was spearheaded by GGGI and Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) to increase the number of developing countries that demonstrate the feasibility and the benefits of green growth planning by engaging three countries where the potential for green growth is particularly significant.

The Country Selection Methodology developed during the Project is designed to facilitate identification of countries where the potential for green growth is particularly high and where GGGI’s future involvementis anticipated to generate significant beneficial impacts.  The focus of the methodology development was therefore to identify countries that feature a high green growth potential and a favourable enabling environment. The approach involves a combination of quantitative and qualitative assessment of countries against a framework of 12 criteria and 38 indicators of green growth potential and the enabling environment.
