On Monday June 8, 2015, in Palangka Raya, five reports that analyze and present green growth opportunities in Central Kalimantan were launched in partnership by the Central Kalimantan government and GGGI. This collaboration is part of the Government of Indonesia’s Green Growth Program, which is led by the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning(BAPPENAS).

1. Central Kalimantan: Moving Towards Green Growth
This report examines a range of sectoral and cross-cutting initiatives advanced by the Central Kalimantan government that aim to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits. Each initiative is assessed against the five desired outcomes of green growth, which highlights key challenges that need to be addressed to achieve sustainable development. This report also identifies implications and opportunities for Central Kalimantan’s next medium-term development plan for the period 2016 to 2020.

2. Murung Raya Green Growth Strategy
This strategy presents a set of actions that will allow the Murung Raya to balance economic growth and environmental sustainability, and will ultimately deliver prosperity for the people. The strategy identifies green growth interventions across four of the district’s key sectors: forestry, mining, plantations and energy, along with some cross-cutting interventions. Murung Raya district is in the north of Central Kalimantan, at the very center of the island of Borneo, and still hosts vast areas of pristine natural forest.

3. Pulang Pisau Green Growth Strategy
This strategy outlines the opportunity for Pulang Pisau to shift to a new economic growth pathway that delivers prosperity whilst reducing poverty and achieving environmental sustainability. This strategy includes interventions across four of the district’s key sectors; forestry, aquaculture, plantations and renewable energy. Pulang Pisau is located in the southeast of Central Kalimantan and peatlands covers more than 60% of the district.

4. Renewable energy: A Green Growth Assessment in Kalimantan
This booklet presents the results of an assessment of the monetary costs and benefits associated with renewable energy projects in Kalimantan. This report shows the potential contribution of renewable energy sources toward achieving both energy security and a cleaner environment. Using an extended Cost Benefit Analysis (eCBA) technique, the study presents monetary values of costs and benefits associated with four renewable energy technology projects in Central and East Kalimantan.

5. Ecosystem Restoration: Green Growth Opportunities in the Katingan Peatlands
This booklet presents the results of an extended Cost Benefit Analysis (eCBA) of green growth policy interventions in a peatland project in Central Kalimantan. This analysis looks beyond purely commercial returns of the project and attempts to value environmental externalities, public goods and social returns of investments. The study presents options to improve the green growth outcomes of the project and identify the benefits of mitigating carbon emissions and preserving vital ecosystem services.
