CCDA and GGGI held Workshop on Implementation of Green Climate Fund Policies and Procedures for PNG

June 28, Port Moresby – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in partnership with Papua New Guinea’s Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) hosted its first Green Climate Fund (GCF) readiness workshop in PNG on June 27 and 28 at the Laguna Hotel in Port Moresby.

As the delivery partner to PNG’s GCF Readiness program, GGGI is committed to supporting the Government of PNG to establish effective coordination mechanism, strategic frameworks, build relevant capacity for government partners and to achieve higher quality, more innovative climate project proposals.

This was the first in a series of workshops and consultations aimed at strengthening the role of CCDA as the National Designated Authority (NDA) to GCF. The workshops served as a platform for supporting the NDA to provide an effective coordination mechanism to effectively understand and execute GCF policies and procedures.

The two-day workshop focused on (i) green project and program development, and (ii) monitoring and evaluation. This will be later followed by another two-day workshop that will discuss (i) international procurement, and (ii) accounting and oversight.

Key stakeholders participated in this workshop, including representatives of central agency government departments and agencies, provincial governments, non-governmental organizations, and universities in PNG.

Ms. Jin Young Kim, Head of Program for Asia and Pacific, GGGI and Mr. Ruel Yamuna, CCDA Managing Director officiated the workshop.

Going forward, similar workshops are slated to be held at the subnational regional centers in PNG to ensure inclusive stakeholder participation in the GCF capacity strengthening process.
