GGGI’s engagement with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) began in 2011 with assessing green growth opportunities across sectors and advising on the institutional reforms and national policies required for achieving improved development outcomes. In 2012-2013, GGGI supported the RGC with adopting the National Policy and Strategic Plan on Green Growth 2013-2030, and establishing the national governance structures for the coordination of green growth sector strategies and actions.
GGGI’s ongoing work in Cambodia is centered around the Green Urban Development Program, which will focus on supporting the RGC with the development of green city projects. In 2015-2016, GGGI will provide technical assistance to the General Secretariat for Sustainable Development on integrating green growth into the planning processes of Cambodia’s cities and supporting the government with implementing projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of Cambodia’s urban poor. A green city strategic plan will be developed for Phnom Penh, which will support the city to adapt to climate change, curb emissions growth, and enable the urban economy to develop as an engine of inclusive growth.
GGGI is partnering with Cambodia’s National Council for Sustainable Development and the General Secretariat for Sustainable Development to implement the program activities, while a number of other agencies are also contributing to program outcomes.
