From the scorching heatwave in Europe to changing rainfall patterns in Africa, the world is already feeling the effects of climate change, according to Frank Rijsberman, director general of the Global Green Growth Institute.

The green finance leader popped in to the BusinessGreen studio on a sweltering summer’s day earlier this month to discuss how his organisation is helping to tackle the problem by promoting ‘green growth’ in economies around the world.

The GGGI’s 300-strong workforce collaborates with governments and businesses globally to promote the commercial and economic benefits of low-carbon investment, from solar-plus-storage in Vietnam to wind power in Korea.

During our chat Rijsberman revealed the key challenges the GGGI faces in shifting investment patterns, from educating investors and breaking down outdated assumptions to driving political ambition for change. But he also pointed out the huge opportunities there are for those willing to take the leap towards green growth and back innovations “that can spread like wildfire”.
