On January 16-19, GGGI will organize a series of activities as part of its participation in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES 2017) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The activities will highlight GGGI’s support for and work with Member Countries and institutional partners, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, to transition toward green growth pathways of strong, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth.
To host these activities and further support GGGI’s MENA green growth and knowledge sharing initiatives among stakeholders, GGGI has built a pavilion in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, where WFES 2017 is being held.
The Green Growth Youth Program is one important initiative that will be featured at the GGGI pavilion. Moderated by Youth Program participants, students from the UAE will take part in an open forum led by GGGI’s Director-General, Frank Rijsberman, to discuss green growth topics in the UAE, including food security, water resources, and climate change.
Co-led by GGGI and the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Youth Program was kicked-off in 2015 to introduce university students in the UAE to concepts of green growth, encourage research in the field and provide opportunities to gain experience within an international organization.
The GGGI pavilion will also serve to premier the latest GGGI Stories of Change film. Focusing on the UAE’s commitment to transform its economy into a green growth model of development, the film documents some of the positives changes the UAE has delivered in cooperation with partners, including GGGI. The UAE Green Growth Initiative film is the fifth in GGGI’s Stories of Change film series.
The WFES 2017 is begin held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, an annual global platform that addresses the interconnected challenges of accelerating and adopting sustainable development and clean energy. Both WFES 2017 and Sustainability Week are being organized by the Masdar Initiative, which includes Masdar City.
GGGI’s offices in Abu Dhabi are located in Masdar City.
